During this phase, we will begin a rigorous exploration of non-parallel projection (perspective) and orthographic drawing techniques, through drawing as well as physical model. We will move back and forth between the digital realm, physical model, and hand-drawing. Over the next weeks, we will cover basic concepts of scale modeling and drawing in a 3D environment, rendering, texture mapping, lighting, and combining collage methods with digital tools in a physical viewing device– the diorama.
We will use real spaces within the Chulalongkorn Faculty of Architecture as reference, in order to understand the translation of actual physical space to 2D representation. From a digital 3D model, a range of different 2D representations can be created (line drawings in orthographic projections as plans, sections and isometric drawings, as well as perspective renders).
