DTS Project 2-2

September 23, 2013

While the previous parts of this project focused on creating polyhedra through folding surface, we will now study these geometric forms through an investigation of positive and negative space. Using methods of mold- making and casting, you will create polyhedral solids.

Understanding the relationship between the space surrounding the polyhedron and the polyhedral form itself is key– in this case, the mold acts as the negative space, while the cast form would be the positive space. However, in order to create the mold, you will have to engage in an inversion of conceptualizing this positive and negative space– in which making the mold will become positive space, and the cavity left for pouring as the negative space.
